How your AI Commerce Index is scored

The 0 to 100 number

Your AI Commerce Index is a single 0 to 100 score for how ready your store is for AI shopping. It blends two things: Readiness (40%), how well your catalog is prepared, and Visibility (60%), how AI assistants actually mention and describe you.

The AI Commerce Index blends Readiness at 40 percent and Visibility at 60 percent into a 0 to 100 score.

Readiness (40%)

Readiness is scored from your catalog, so it is something you control directly. It looks at eight factors: product descriptions, titles, image alt text, FAQs, meta titles and descriptions, structured data, and your store manifesto. Improve these and your readiness rises on the next scan.

Visibility (60%)

Visibility is measured out in the world. Burnish asks the major AI assistants the kinds of questions a shopper would, then checks whether your store comes up and how it is described. You influence it indirectly: stronger readiness and a clear manifesto give the assistants more to work with. The two halves of this score are covered in Presence vs Reputation.

Reading the number

Alongside the score you will see a confidence range and a 30-day trend. The range reflects how much Burnish has sampled, so more samples means a tighter range. High readiness with low visibility means your catalog is ready but the assistants have not caught up yet. High on both means they know you and describe you well.

Visibility carries more weight, so it moves the number most. But readiness is the lever you control directly, and improving it is what lifts visibility over time.
